Community and friends,
The news we share with you today is one of the most difficult and heartbreaking things we have had to do. Due to the Governor’s current orders, the 2020 Oak Harbor Apple Festival has been cancelled. Gatherings of more than 10 people as well as festivals, parades and car shows are still prohibited. I know many of you that are in favor of the festival are probably thinking we should wait longer, but please understand that we waited as long as possible to make this announcement. An event the size of the Oak Harbor Apple Festival cannot be planned in a few weeks. We are already past most of our normal deadlines and waiting any longer would not be feasible.
We will be contacting our vendors, entertainers and contractors to inform them and discuss their options. Our staff and volunteers pour their heart and soul into presenting the festival to you each year, and we feel for our local clubs, churches, organizations, businesses and vendors that will be impacted by this cancellation. We will now transition into early planning for the 2021 Oak Harbor Apple Festival that will be held on October 9-10, 2021. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, participants, volunteers and others that make the festival possible, and we hope to have your continued support in 2021.
We know that everyone is eager to get out, so the Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding several social distancing activities starting October 1st. There will be a virtual Apple Run, a scavenger hunt, rock hunting, and weekly drawings. More details will come on these events in the coming weeks.
