Free Rent for New Businesses

If you drive through downtown Oak Harbor, you will notice a couple of the empty buildings have a free rent sign in the window. In an effort to help revitalize downtown Oak Harbor, Snyder Real Estate & Rentals is offering free rent for new businesses that would like to open up a storefront in Oak Harbor. According to Snyder, “These buildings are completely remodeled and ready for business.” If you have been thinking of starting up your own business, now is the perfect time. In addition to the free rent, there are also small business seminars and tools available through Terra Community College’s Small Business Development Center. Their services include training, counseling, business plan development assistance and more. Chamber Annual Dinner

The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Member Dinner will be held on Friday January 27, 2012 @ 6:00pm at the VFW Memorial Hall on Main Street in Oak Harbor. Please mark your calendars to save the date. The evening will kick off with social hour, followed by a hot buffet dinner, a short business meeting to elect the 2012 board members, then we kick off the entertainment with video horse racing, a Chinese auction, and door prizes throughout the night! Tickets are just $12.00 each, and may be purchased by calling the chamber office at 419-898-0479. Deadline to RSVP is January 20, 2012; we hope to see you there! We are also hoping that member businesses like yours might be interested in donating door prizes for our Annual Member Dinner. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business to the Chamber members. On Friday February 17, 2012, Michelle Ish, of The HR Department will be presenting first free seminar of the year. It will run from 12p-1p and will be held at the OCIC. This seminar is FREE to Oak Harbor chamber members and includes lunch. The topic of discussion will be BWC supervisor training. According to Michelle: “I’ve found over the course of my career in Safety and Workers’ Compensation that those companies experiencing high premiums don’t necessarily suffer from poor safety programs or especially unsafe workplaces, or have careless employees. Often times, the problem is in the claims management! Too often, critical decisions are left to be made by front line supervisors who admit to already being spread too thin, without the added task of managing workplace injuries.
